Music MeccaJazz may have been born in New Orleans, but it grew up in Kansas City. Discover why musicians fled to the “Paris of the Plains” during Prohibition at the American Jazz Museum. Located in the historic 18th and Vine Jazz District, visitors will learn about jazz legends and find a thriving live jazz scene featuring talented artists from around the country. On the opposite side of the state, St. Louis traces its roots to Blues music. The National Blues Museum explores the genre and its importance as the foundation of all modern American music. Several clubs feature live music every day of the week. Nestled in the rolling hills of the Ozarks, Branson is the perfect destination for variety. With more theatre seats than NYC’s Broadway District, visitors can choose between countless genres – including country, rock, bluegrass, gospel, and pop – at more than 20 theaters.

Culinary DelightsYou can’t mention barbecue without thinking of Missouri. Kansas City- and St. Louis-style BBQ is rooted in their respective communities, with traditions handed down from generation to generation. Pitmasters have perfected the art of smoking meat, and compete in competitions around the country for acclaim. Try Kansas City favourites like Arthur Bryant’s Barbeque, Gates Bar-B-Q, Jack Stack BBQ and Q39. Beloved restaurants in St. Louis include Pappy’s Smokehouse, Bogart’s Smokehouse, Sugarfire Smoke House and Salt + Smoke. But BBQ isn’t the only thing the Show-Me State is known for. Visitors also have to try local specialties like St. Louis-style pizza, toasted ravioli, gooey butter cake, pork steaks, and Springfield-style cashew chicken.
